Each state tax rule is read from the state revenue department, comptroller or the state statute, and checked against an independent published table. Where the official source has moved on (a rate cut enacted for 2026, for example), the official figure is used and the table noted as out of date.
Rents, home values, property tax, household income, price levels, electricity prices and crime come from the Census Bureau, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the Energy Information Administration and the FBI, each the single official compiler for its figure. Property tax as a share of home value is computed from two Census figures and labelled as such.
359 facts are published with an official source. 227 further readings are withheld because an official page could not be read or two sources disagreed; they are published once resolved.
We do not rank states and we do not compute a personal tax bill: rates are statutory, local taxes are excluded, and federal tax is the same in every state. The data is refreshed when the agencies publish new releases and is served to AI agents through the Mirabello MCP.
Information, not tax or legal advice. Rates are statutory state rates for the stated year; local income, sales and property taxes, deductions and federal tax are not included. Statistics are the latest official releases for the year shown. Confirm your own position with the state revenue department or a tax adviser.
