The Thailand Privilege Card — formerly the Thailand Elite Card — is South-East Asia's most established long-stay privilege programme. Launched in 2003 and wholly state-owned under Thailand's Ministry of Tourism & Sports, it has surpassed 36,000 members from over 100 nationalities. The exclusive Global Sales Agent is Henley & Partners.

Unlike a golden visa or a formal residency permit, the Thailand Privilege Card is a tourist-class Privilege Entry Visa that grants long-stay access (5–20 years) alongside a comprehensive VIP service suite managed by a dedicated Personal Liaison Officer. There is no mandatory minimum property or business investment in Thailand — members pay a one-time membership fee.

For ultra-high-net-worth individuals seeking a cost-effective lifestyle base in South-East Asia, Thailand offers world-class private healthcare at a fraction of Western costs, 200+ international schools across Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket, a warm tropical climate, and one of Asia's most dynamic hospitality ecosystems — all without a minimum stay requirement.

Important note on visa classification: the Privilege Card is a tourist-class visa. If your goal is permanent residence or Thai citizenship, you will need the Thailand LTR Visa (a Non-Immigrant visa) — which qualifies for the PR eligibility period. Mirabello Consultancy can advise on the correct route for your long-term objectives.

Why choose the Thailand Privilege Card?

  • Lowest entry point of any Mirabello programme: from THB 650,000 (~USD 18,000) for the BRONZE 5-year package
  • Effortless administration: a dedicated Personal Liaison Officer handles all immigration reporting, annual stamp renewals and government services — no personal attendance required
  • World-class healthcare: Bangkok's internationally accredited private hospitals (Bumrungrad, Bangkok Hospital) at a fraction of Western costs
  • International education: 200+ international schools (IB, British, American curricula) across Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket
  • No minimum stay: retain your existing global lifestyle; enter Thailand whenever you wish
  • VIP airport experience: personal escort, priority immigration, lounge access and complimentary limousine transfer at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang Bangkok, plus Phuket and Chiang Mai
  • Privilege Points: Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Reserve members earn annual points redeemable for golf, spa, domestic flights, co-working and more
  • Proven programme: 20+ years of operational history, 36,000–40,000 active members, robust state-backed infrastructure

Tax considerations for Privilege Card holders

Important: the Thailand Privilege Card provides no tax benefits or exemptions. It is a tourist-class visa with no special tax status.

Thailand taxes residents on Thai-sourced income and, since January 2024, on all foreign-sourced income remitted into Thailand (under Revenue Department Orders Phor.161/162). Thai tax residency triggers at 180 days per year in Thailand.

TaxRateNotes
Thai personal income tax0–35% (progressive)Thai-sourced income + foreign income remitted to Thailand
Foreign income remitted (2024+)0–35%All remittances now taxable regardless of when income was earned
Capital gainsNo separate CGTTreated as income — progressive rates apply
Inheritance (Thai assets)5–10%Only on Thai assets above THB 100M
Wealth taxNone
VAT7%On goods and services in Thailand

For ultra-high-net-worth individuals focused on tax efficiency, the Thailand LTR Visa (Wealthy Global Citizen / Wealthy Pensioner category) grants a 0% tax rate on foreign-sourced income remitted to Thailand — a significant advantage over the Privilege Card. Mirabello Consultancy can advise whether the LTR Visa better serves your financial objectives.

Path to permanent residence and citizenship

Important clarification: the Thailand Privilege Card is a tourist-class visa. Time held on it does not count toward Thai Permanent Residence (PR) eligibility.

To qualify for Thai PR, you must hold a Non-Immigrant visa (such as the LTR Visa, Non-B work visa, or Non-O family visa) for a minimum of 3 consecutive years with at least 270 days of physical presence in Thailand. The annual PR quota is approximately 100 approvals per nationality — one of the most limited in Asia.

  • PR via LTR Visa: 3 years on LTR (Non-Immigrant) + application processing (18–24 months) = ~5 years to PR
  • Citizenship: 10 additional years after PR + naturalisation application = minimum 13–15 years total. Thai language proficiency is required. Thailand generally requires renunciation of other citizenships.

For most Privilege Card members, neither PR nor citizenship is the goal. The card delivers a premium long-stay lifestyle platform. For clients who want a second passport, Mirabello Consultancy strongly recommends combining Thai residency with a parallel Caribbean or European CBI programme — giving you the best of both worlds. Explore our CBI programmes or contact us for a complementary strategy session.

  8. First entry + VIP activation: airport VIP services activate on first entry. Your Personal Liaison Officer takes over all immigration administration.

Total timeline: 4–8 weeks from application submission to approval; approximately 8–12 weeks to visa in passport.

Frequently asked questions — Thailand Privilege Card

How much does the Thailand Privilege Card cost in 2026?

The entry-level BRONZE package is THB 650,000 (~USD 18,000) for 5 years and is currently available until 31 March 2026. GOLD (5 years) is THB 900,000 (~$25,000), PLATINUM (10 years) THB 1,500,000 (~$42,000), DIAMOND (15 years) THB 2,500,000 (~$69,000) and RESERVE (20 years, invite only) THB 5,000,000 (~$138,000). An additional THB 1,900/year covers the annual immigration stamp — handled by your Personal Liaison Officer. [VERIFY current pricing at thailandprivilege.co.th]

Does the Thailand Privilege Card lead to permanent residence or citizenship?

No. The Privilege Card is a tourist-class visa — time on it does not qualify toward Thai PR eligibility. Only Non-Immigrant visas (such as the Thailand LTR Visa) count toward the 3-year PR qualifying period. PR itself has an annual quota of ~100 approvals per nationality and requires 270+ days of physical presence. Citizenship requires a minimum of 13+ total years and Thai language proficiency, and generally requires renunciation of other citizenships. For most clients the Privilege Card is a lifestyle programme — not a route to citizenship.

Can I bring my family on the Thailand Privilege Card?

Yes — but only on PLATINUM, DIAMOND and RESERVE tiers. BRONZE and GOLD are individual memberships. Eligible family members include spouse, children (biological and step), and parents. The current promotional family add-on rate is THB 500,000 per member (standard rate: THB 1,000,000+) — valid until 31 March 2026. [VERIFY extension]

Do I have to live in Thailand to keep the card?

There is no minimum stay requirement. You can enter Thailand as often as you wish — the multiple-entry visa remains valid for the full membership duration. Your Personal Liaison Officer handles all 90-day address reporting requirements remotely.

Is the Thailand Privilege Card a good option for tax planning?

The Privilege Card itself confers no tax benefits. If you become a Thai tax resident (180+ days/year), you will be subject to Thai personal income tax (0–35%) on Thai-sourced income and, since January 2024, on foreign income remitted to Thailand. For HNWI tax optimisation, the Thailand LTR Visa (Wealthy Global Citizen category) is more appropriate — it grants a 0% tax exemption on foreign-sourced income. Specialist Thai tax advice is recommended regardless of programme.

Thailand Elite Residency — Thailand Privilege Card

Country dual citizenship

Residency status and citizenship notes

The Thailand Privilege Card is a tourist-class Privilege Entry Visa — not a formal residency permit and not a citizenship programme.

  • What you receive: a long-stay tourist visa stamped in your existing passport, renewed annually for your membership duration
  • What you keep: all your existing passports and citizenships — the card has no impact on your current nationality
  • Path to PR: requires switching to a Non-Immigrant visa (e.g., Thailand LTR Visa) for 3+ years with 270+ days of physical presence. Annual quota ~100 per nationality. Privilege Card time does not count.
  • Path to citizenship: requires PR first, then 10+ years as PR, Thai language proficiency, and generally renouncing other citizenships. Minimum 13+ year journey.
  • Combined strategy: if a second passport is your objective, Mirabello Consultancy recommends pairing Thailand Privilege Card residency with a Caribbean CBI programme — securing a second passport in 4–6 months while enjoying Thailand as your lifestyle base. Explore our CBI programmes.
